My Christmas wish this year is for everyone to have someone to hug, someone to laugh with and most of all someone to love.
Whether it’s a good friend, sibling, parent, child, spouse or “other,” I’m asking that you appreciate them more, give them a big squeeze or kiss and cherish the moments you get to spend with each other.
Maybe I’m just being nostalgic and missing the fun times I spent in my younger years with family and friends.
Maybe it’s the joyful enthusiasm I see in my children everyday whether it’s Christmas or not.
Maybe I’m just getting older (I turn 40 in February).
Or maybe it’s because in 2016, and even in 2015, the Huntsville community has lost some very amazing individuals.
I won’t write a list of names out of respect for their families, but these were people who put others before themselves and have left a big hole in our town, not to mention many hearts.
Whatever the reason, I’ve been feeling a little more like this is a good year to share the love with family, friends and our community as a whole.
Remember there are many missing their loved ones this year, some for the very first Christmas, and that’s as good a reason as any to truly embrace and enjoy the time we have to spend with ours.
There are also many more in the the community who are spending the season alone, without homes or families to be with. If you get the chance, spend some time helping someone feel warm, welcome and a part of our community.
It’s also a good time to let go of any lasting grudges, whether the slight was real or imagined, you’re holding onto. Life is a fleeting endeavour and I’m sure there’s better ways to spend it than being angry at someone else.
Forgive and forget, it will go a long way to your own happiness.
Let’s take a cue from when we were all children and embrace the true meaning of Christmas: a time for joy, hope and togetherness.
So, for the holiday season and beyond, I’m wishing for everyone to smile a little more, laugh a little more, hug a little more and enjoy all the little joyful moments surrounding us on a daily basis.
On that note, here is a listing of season’s greetings from around the world that I’ve compiled over the years for my family and friends on Facebook.
