Spring has finally arrived and so has the musical medley TEN! – A Celebration of the First Ten Years.
The aptly titled spring musical will feature a selection of numbers from each of the past ten years in honour of the Algonquin Theatre’s tenth anniversary.
Running April 15, 16, 17, 21, 22 and 23, TEN! is shaping up to be an amazing event. Cast, crew and the general public have been excitedly discussing the huge performance for weeks.
A joint production of the Huntsville Festival of the Arts and the Rotary Club of Huntsville, the show is being co-directed by John A. MacDonald and Tia Pearse.
Pearse also is choreographing the talented cast, Neil Barlow is the musical director, and Jillian McDougall is the vocal director for the retrospective of past shows.
“The tenth anniversary of anything is pretty important,” says MacDonald. “The tenth anniversary of the Algonquin Theatre is really important to this town. Both the Huntsville Festival of the Arts and a number of independent producers have stepped up to produce these musicals every spring. We thought it was appropriate to present the highlights from all those numbers.”
The cast of 50 includes many individuals reprising previous rolls, while there are a few newcomers helping relive the memories from Shrek, Seussical, The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Jesus Christ Superstar, Annie, Aida, The Music Man, Guys & Dolls and The Drowsy Chaperone.
Included in the show songs from each of the community musicals which were performed on the Algonquin stage. Some of these include Fiddler on the Roof, Hard Knock Life, If I Only Had a Brain/Heart/Nerve, Hook’s Tango, Guys & Dolls and many more.
