HUNTSVILLE, ON – Jeremiah Tilstra grew up in Huntsville. It’s where he went to school, and where he started to ply his trade as a master electrician. It’s where he opened up his store, Muskoka Lighting Company, and it’s where he started a family.
So, when Tilstra heard about the Habitat for Humanity Build on Irene Street, he knew he wanted to help. The local business owner is no stranger to Habitat for Humanity having volunteered with the electrical work on previous Muskoka builds, and he’s excited once again to help make a big difference in his own backward.
“A huge part of Habitat’s mission is engaging community, and this family is the embodiment of that spirit,” said Habitat’s Director of Development and Communications, Britta Gerwin. “This is about one Huntsville family helping another, and, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about. We are building more than a home, we are helping to build community and a new way of life for our neighbours.”
Tilstra recently visited the Habitat build site while insulation and vapor barrier were installed. He will soon begin work on designing and installing all of the lighting fixtures for the duplex.
“To allow these people to come together just out of the generosity of their hearts is overwhelming. You just want to say thank you but it’s almost like thank you is not enough,” said Habitat homeowner Alyssa Foran who will move into one of the homes with her family. “There is no true expression to really explain how we feel wow, thank you, thank you, thank you.”
