Much thanks also goes the amazing volunteers that spent countless hours preparing for this anticipated family fun day.
Although the drivers got a bit soggy during the parade, the clouds parted for the race and held off while hundreds cheered on their favourite tubs from the bridge and riverfront patios. The day delivered dramatic dunks, crazy antics and semi-high-speed action with more tubs, new motors and an exciting new obstacle course all climaxing with the photo finish win by the Boston Pizza bathtub.
The day drew to a close with rain soaked burgers and beer tents, but the rain didn’t dampen the spirits of our incredible community and amazing Rotarians who assisted in raising over $15,000 in funds that went towards the beautiful Rotary Bandshell in RiverMill Park.
With the Rotary 2015–16 year at a close, our new 2016-17 President Jennifer Jerrett, will continue the tradition and plans have already begun to make next year’s Dockfest an even bigger and more memorable event.
With a club 80 year’s in the making, there have been numerous outstanding members who have committed their time, energy and love and exemplified the motto of service above self.
Several members have been devoted for twenty years or more, and under her Presidency, Brandy Van Gelder and the board of directors wanted to recognize these members for their years of service with a special recognition evening.
This was a very special evening for the club and an incredible opportunity to give thanks to Bill Sibeon, Gord Mitchell, Don Dunton, Ron Strickland, Doug Fairhall, Vern Foell, Peter Van Buskirk, Hugh Holland, as well as honorary members George Snooks, and Tony and Dolores Jardine.
As one Rotary President ended an epic year, another takes the place with an anticipated eventful year ahead. Presidents Night, held at Birches Restaurant in Hidden Valley was an evening of recognition and fond memories from the year left behind.
President Brandy Van Gelder proudly presented the Community Recognition of the Year awards to Randy and Tracy Robinson of Robinson’s Independent Grocer.
The high honour of a Paul Harris Fellowship Award was given for their efforts and contributions to not only our Rotary Club of Huntsville, but our community as a whole. With their generous donations and active participation in events and functions, Randy and Tracy epitomize true community spirit.
The evening continued with an honour to one of our own, with Rotarian of the Year given to Debbie Knobelsdorf. Debbie is not only Past President and repeated Committee Chair, but a local business owner who donates time and energy tirelessly proving to be worthy of our highest club honour.
In memory of Rotarians we lost this year, moments of silence recognized their hard work, their commitment to community, family and Rotary and of course the holes that are left in our Club with their passing. We ask that you remember with us, Don Dunton, who served 22 years on our club, and a newer member George Zacal, who joined us from another Rotary club, both will be dearly missed.
